We have to brag on one of our favorite clients’ yards!  I know we say this about a lot of our clients (maybe because we are blessed to work with so many wonderful people), but this is truly one of our favorites.  When we took over this front yard it was a blank canvas.  There were a few flower beds present, but none that showcased how spectacular this lot is.  So we removed everything that was existing and started over from scratch.

We wanted each bed to be it’s own spotlight of beauty and visual delight.   We used varying heights, color and textures to draw the eye to every area of the yard.   From the moment you walk up the path you are greeted with cheerful pink hibiscus covering the ground.  The beds are flanked with two show stopping pots filled with pom pom juniper trees, purple scaevola, and pink and white vincas.  Layered behind the hibiscus are liriope ground covering.

As you move towards the entry gate, we used more layers, starting with liriope ground covering, mixed in colorful pentas, and flanked with two boxwood trees.

Moving to the left of the main gate is the far left bed.  The flowering althea tree is surrounded by encor azalea bushes (which will be filled with color in spring and fall), boxwood bushes behind them (closest to the house), a layer of sedum in front of the azaleas, and finished with the liriope ground covering lining the front.

In the far left front bed closest to the street, we added a few pink and purple angelonia next to the azaleas and liriope, for added color.

Moving on to the right side of the yard, we started the half curve bed with layers of jasmine, impatiens, caladiums, pentas and a gorgeous magenta crepe myrtle tree.  The variations of pinks, whites and purples throughout the yard really bring all of these beds together nicely.

And no space left undone, we planted a Japanese maple in the back corner where the tall boxwoods and oak trees provide privacy for the yard.  These maples will burst with color two times a year and add a splash of color to this spot.  All in all, we are so pleased with this front, bursting with major curb appeal.  Most importantly we are so happy when our clients trust our vision for their yards, the outcome is truly one they will love for years!

If you follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or happen to know our Vice President, Brian Ruibal, you know we are supporters of the local charity Stepping Stones Foundation.   They are a non-profit organization that focuses on “at-risk” and homeless children in the community, getting them help and encouraging each child to take steps toward a better future.  Over the past couple of weeks they were helping a particular family in need and it was a beautiful thing to see how volunteers and businesses sprung into action to make them a home.  A group of 5 sweet children weren’t being cared for properly and were living out of a storage unit.  When the kids were removed from that environment they went under the care of an aunt who didn’t have the space large enough for them all.  There was a distant relative who had a home they could pass on, but it hadn’t been looked after for quite some time and wasn’t in a livable condition.  It was at that time they put out the bat signal asking or anyone who could donate time, labor, materials, furniture, you name it.  They needed enough donations to renovate the home, and equally important, the volunteers to do the renovations.  We saw the community step up in a HUGE way.  We at Landscape Systems did what we know best and that’s landscaping.  We had our crews clearing out the brush, leaves, dead plant life and brought in some new bushes and flowers to spruce up the outside.  We had so many wonderful volunteers helping us along the way and were so grateful to everyone who supported our efforts.  When we finished the outside we moved inside with the rest of the volunteers!

So many other local businesses stepped in to offer their services inside the home, from heating and cooling, and electrical work to new floors, sheet rock, dry wall, fence repair, painting, custom furniture, sinks, toilets, fixtures, lights, decor, meals for the family and so much more!  The list goes on, including support from Keller Lion’s Club, The Keller Chamber, BNSF, Young Men Service League, Young Life Keller, Colleyville NTA Taekwondo, Garabedian Properties, The Floor Store Keller, Berkey’s Southlake, Horizon Forest, All About Paint and More, BNSF, Lowe’s Southlake and Keller, Sherwin Williams Roanoke and Keller, Proscapes, Cooper Overhead Door Service, Pioneer Animal Hospital, American Transmission, Ace Store and Repair, Ironwood Fencing, Office Equity Solutions, Sweet Memories Cakes and Catering, Marco’s Pizza, DeVivo Brothers, and Jersey Mike’s Keller!

It was truly an amazing transformation!!!  The unveiling to the family was so wonderful, you can see in their sweet faces how truly special this moment was.

Sometimes you get so used to looking at the same thing each day, it doesn’t occur to you that you could potentially make it even better!  This client had a lovely, huge backyard and pool area, but was losing space and visual of it all with the way their landscaping was designed.  They had a small dining set in the middle of their walkway impeding foot traffic, and bushes that were overgrown and not really providing much in the design department.  With the height and width of the bushes you couldn’t see the large grass run behind it.

Their covered outdoor dining area was also being flanked by two beds that were filled with towering overgrown bushes, blocking the view of the pool and yard from inside of it.  Our goal was to give them a simple redesign that would allow them to open up their walk way, regain their sight lines of the yard and spruce up the plant life to create a more serene and happy landscape.

We started by tearing out all of the existing bushes, shrubbery and tree to the right.  Then we laid a small flagstone area  inside the garden bed area for their cafe style table and chairs.  This way the dining space would sit inside the landscaping, clearing up the walkway and providing a charming focal point.  We used their existing garden decor and fountain and added some Lemon Joy Sedum, Foxtail Ferns, Twist of Lime Abelia, and Ever Red Lorepetulum.  In the next few weeks when the Spring perennials are ready for planting we can update with even more.

Then over by the covered dining patio, we replaced the existing shrubs with the same coordinating plants.  We brought in a couple of potters to bring in a design element and allow for a little height and layering.  Now you can see in and out of the dining area, watching the grand kids, friends and family enjoy the joys of outdoor time!  A simple fix that really cleans up the space and allows for more togetherness.
